Writing from close to the work.

Aikou Insights examines leadership, development, organisational performance and failure in high-consequence environments.

It includes white papers, essays, case studies, practitioner notes and, where evidence permits, analysis of consequential events and what becomes visible before and after failure.

The writing draws on advisory practice, operational experience, research and continuing inquiry. Its purpose is to deepen understanding, challenge assumptions and share useful questions rather than present a fixed body of answers.

New writing is published when inquiry, practice or evidence produces something substantive worth sharing.

Published writing.

An evolving collection of papers and analysis. New work joins the archive as it is published.

AIKOU WHITE PAPER NO. 4 - 2026

One Moving Whole

How Leaders, Collectives and Systems Shape What an Organisation Can See, Hold and Act On Under Pressure

Developing one leader does not necessarily change what a team can decide or an organisation can sustain. This paper follows how leadership, authority, culture and formal systems shape one another under pressure.

Where Leadership Happens

Why Truth Travels in the Overlap Between People, or Quietly Dies There

Important information can fail to travel not because nobody knows it, but because relationships and authority shape what can be said and heard. This paper examines what happens between people.

The Leader Under Load

Why Sound Judgement Can Crack Exactly When It Is Needed Most

A leader can possess the capability the role requires and still lose access to it under pressure. This paper examines what has been developed and what remains reachable when consequence rises.

Failure Before Failure™

Why Major Incidents Begin While the Dashboard Is Still Green

Serious failure can take shape while reporting stays green. This paper examines how weak signals, workarounds and delayed escalation can leave senior leaders with a reduced picture of operating reality.

BOOK IN DEVELOPMENT

The Coherence Imperative

Structure, State and the Development of Leadership Under Pressure

A longer-form inquiry into how leadership develops across increasing complexity and consequence. The book examines Structure, State and their relationship across the full developmental arc: what leaders become capable of understanding and working with, what remains accessible under pressure, and how that development shapes leadership within collectives and organisational systems.
